Shure is one of the best and reputed companies when it comes to microphones. They provide incredible for the price you pay with amazing features. This cardioid microphone can enhance your recording incredibly.  The flat and wide-range frequency response allows for a wide capturing of audio which in turn makes the sound clean and natural without losing the essence of the environment. Whether it be music or speech, it does its job incredibly well.

Pros
Cons

Okay seriously do I need to say any more? I stated its price as a con because for budget goers it may feel a bit costly but honestly, it is worth the money spent. Cardioid polar pattern, uniform frequency, rejects both mechanical voices and low-frequency noises effectively, comes with a pop-up filter and a detachable windscreen. This will enhance your voice over experience multifold. If you do not have any budget restrictions and are okay with spending a good amount of money then this is a great option.

Final Verdict

Top
Pick

Electro Voice RE-20 is yet another premium voice over microphone. It does cost a bit, maybe a lot? But what stands out is its professional features and usage. It looks minimal but a feature-packed one which can make you feel that the cost is worth it. It has a professional-grade cardioid polar pattern.

Pros
Cons

In case you didn’t know what a cardioid polar pattern is it captures audio in a heart-shaped pattern were not only the source but also its environment. This helps your voice or music sound clear and not lose its natural tone at the same time.
The microphone has an amazing heavy duty pop filter which effectively reduces proximity effects. Once again if you are into professional recording these can annoy you.

Effective reduction of these can enhance the quality and precision of your audio on so many levels. For vibration and mechanical noises, the microphone comes with a shock mount. It eliminates and reduces vibration, mechanical noises and handling noises. These low-frequency noises can interfere with the consistency of the audio.

The microphone is covered with an acoustic opening so that blast and wind filters to eliminate wind noises and breathing sounds.  It has a full metal body which improves its durability tremendously. Coming with a 3 pin XLR too which makes the compatibility easy. Although it has some great features the price still feels a bit high. Even though some may feel that it is worth the cost the price does change the perspective.

Final Verdict

This does not have any con at all and is a great microphone. I would love to recommend it if it’s not for the price. The price at times feels way too high. That does not mean you shouldn’t go for it. Anyone who is into professional voice overs can go for it without any doubt. We shouldn’t forget that this is a premium grade microphone so maybe the price is justifiable?

Editor's
Choice

MXL mic 770 is one of the best microphones in the budget segment. The value of money is impressive and incredible. It is an excellent choice for voice over because of its accurate voice capturing which is the primary requirement for us. But again do not underestimate this microphone looking at its price because it outperforms many microphones at this price and some medium-priced mics too.

Pros
Cons

Its effective multipurpose condenser is the second best thing about this microphone. This multipurpose microphone allows for flexible usability. It may feel like a general or a common microphone but it does what we want, recording clean and clear audio.

It also has an incredible polar pattern which captures the audio perfectly. Maintains the natural and yet at the same time produces precise audio. The microphone comes with an effective and stable bass. It makes the audio source stable and enhances the quality of it. Creates a smooth and no interference environment for voice-overs.

It has an effective low-frequency feature which identifies and eliminates minute rumblings and mechanical noises.  A disadvantage you may face with this microphone is it’s below average noise reduction. Although its low-frequency feature reduces handling noises, background noises can remain a concern during the recording. Getting a pop-up filter separately or a good vocal booth can resolve this problem easily. The best thing about this microphone is its price. As I said before it does outperform many microphones which are priced way higher than this one. The value of money is incredible but that does not mean this one is a premium grade one.

Final Verdict

Even though it has below par noise reduction and durability I still think it’s a decent option for beginners. We cannot expect the premium grade performance and build at this price range but still, they manage to give us some great features like its condenser and polar pattern. The microphone will be amazing if you can get an external accessory for noise cancellation.

HyperX Quadcast is one of my personal favourites. It may be stated as a gaming microphone but it actually can be used for almost everything which has highly sophisticated features but at the same time easy to use too. Talking about HyperX they are a renowned company when it comes to computer accessories, especially gaming, and you will not see a list with a HyperX product, that’s how much reputed they are.

Pros
Cons

Coming to the features this microphone comes with incredible polar patterns: Stereo, Omnidirectional, Bidirectional and Cardioid. This helps you change the polar pattern according to your need at any time you want, thanks to its easily adjustable knob for changing the pickup pattern. Do you know what is the coolest thing about this microphone? It’s highly sophisticated features which can be used easily. That’s where the tap to mute function comes in, as the name says you can just tap on the microphone and its censor will automatically mute it. It also has a LED indicator which shows the status of the microphone.

The microphone comes with a built-in anti-vibration shock mount which effectively suppresses minute and low-frequency rumblings, handling noises and mechanical noises which can interfere with the audio. A mount adapter is included along with the microphone which helps you record stable voice-overs much more efficiently.

It also comes with a gain control using which you can change the sensitivity of the microphone. Now you know why this is my favourite. The price can feel a bit high for budget goers but to be honest it worth every penny you spend. I mean seriously is there anything that is not amazing about this microphone? Well played HyperX.

Final Verdict

Honestly, there is nothing wrong about this microphone at all. If you have some money and are ready to spend it on a microphone I would recommend you this not only for voice-overs but for almost everything. Although its plastic build is a slight disappointment at this price it works amazingly well and can say worth the money spent.

I heard you and realized that probably its time to show some budget microphones. The Fifine USB mic is an excellent budget microphone which will suit your voice over needs because of its excellent metal condenser. First talking about its compatibility, the microphone can be plugged into both Windows and Mac without any stress, thanks to its USB connectivity. Its plug and play feature does not need you to install any software to start working with it. Easy to use.

Pros
Cons

The microphone comes with a smooth cardioid polar pattern which captures the sound effectively. Thanks to its metal condenser it produces much more accurate audio with an adequate amount of crispiness. It comes in handy while doing voice-overs as it can be easily identified.

It comes with adjustable volume control so you need not go and mess up with the computer settings to change it. The microphone is highly sensitive efficiently captures low-frequency sounds easily. Does it have a metal body which makes it amazingly durable and at this price?

Come, man, even premium microphones don’t offer metal bodies at those high prices. This one stands out for real. Probably the best feature, not a feature exactly but an aspect about this microphone is its price. although it may not be as good as a premium one we should keep its price range in our mind and maybe lower our expectations accordingly.

Final Verdict

Even though it’s an amazing microphone which has incredible value for money I wouldn’t necessarily recommend for someone who wants to do voice-overs professionally. This is still a great option for short filmmakers and YouTubers, as long as you use it for the casual purpose it is an amazing choice, especially at this price range.

This Blue Yeti microphone is probably the most feature-packed in this list. I mean just look at it four selectable polar patterns, three condenser capsules, has a separate mic and volume gain control, it comes with an adjustable stand and easy plug & play feature. The custom three capsule condenser has an exceptional broadcast quality be it for voice-over recording or youtube or podcasting or conference. Enhances your audio multifold and at the same time maintains the accuracy.

Pros
Cons

It comes with four selectable polar patterns: Omnidirectional, Bidirectional, Stereo and Cardioid. You can change it according to your need and environment whenever you want. This is an excellent feature that even high priced microphones do not provide.

The microphone has real-time zero-latency monitoring. You can monitor your voice in real-time with mixed with the computer audio or the respective audio which enhances your overall audio quality. It is extremely comfortable to use. It has controls for volume adjustment, mic gain, to change polar patterns and also instant mute.

Combining this with its plug and play feature it comes in handy. Sophistication and simplification go hand in hand. This does not matter a lot but comes on how can I not appreciate its amazing design? It also has a Unique Stand which is top-notch.

Final Verdict

There are almost no cons, to be frank. Even though some have reported that quality fades away mostly it does not. The features are just plain amazing. Price may feel a wee bit high but I would say that it is worth it. Value for money is incredible and highly recommended.

Time for a budget voice-over microphone now. Although Blue Snowball mic looks like a ball on a tripod it is one of the best microphones at this price. Why am I calling every microphone as one of the best? Because this is a list about top mics so I’m probably going to. Coming back to Snowball, It has a custom condenser capsule which helps you deliver precise and clear audio which they claim to be “light years ahead of built-in mics”.

Pros
Cons

To be honest every single mic is better than our in-built one but yes this one does provide clean and clear audio.
The microphone comes with a cardioid polar pattern which picks up your perfectly along with the ambience of the environment to make the audio sound more natural.

Suits well for voice-overs and streaming. The design is stylish and minimalistic making it easily portable. Seriously it looks like a minion. It also comes with an adjustable tripod stand for stable recording. One of the best things about this mic is that it does not take up much space in your setup. This is a deal-breaker for me.

Final Verdict

Practically there aren’t any cons for this. Yes this does not have a complete metal build but complaining that it does not have a premium build at this price is hypocrisy, come on. As I said before one of the best budget microphones and suits for multiple purposes. Comes close to premium performance at times. Would recommend it for anyone who wants to go for something cheap.

Rode are one of the best when it comes to microphones. They offer amazing quality microphones at an affordable and mid-range price. This Rode NT comes with great features like cardioid polar pattern, pop filter, zero latency and tripod stand. Its price is what stands out though among all its features. This mic comes with a cardioid polar pattern which captures audio effectively along with the environment ambience so that the audio sounds more natural yet clear.

Pros
Cons

A powerful and comfortable mic for voice-overs. It also has a pressure gradient acoustic principle which makes the audio smooth and clear. Filters out all unnecessary noises to provide us with crisp audio. This makes Rode NT a high-quality studio-grade microphone.

It has real-time zero-latency monitoring to avoid any interference in the recording from any external sources. The direct control mix between mic and output comes handy. Makes the audio more consistent. The microphone comes with a pop filter which eliminates low frequency sounds like breezes, mechanical noises, handling noises, vibrations and breathing sound too effectively. These small details can improve your audio quality multifold.

Probably the best feature or aspect of this microphone is the value for money it offers. To be frank there are not many companies out there who provide pop filters, even the premium ones. The fact that Rode has managed to that too at this price is really impressive.

Final Verdict

Rode is an excellent choice at this price range. It can be used for professional purposes if you have a soundproof room or a good vocal booth due to its below-average noise cancellation. Even though it only has a plastic build it does not seem to be fragile. If you are an individual who is doing some average to the studio-level recording I think this would do good.

Audio-Technica is one of the most innovative companies in the field of microphones. They offer amazing new features with their microphones which are always impressive. They are a mid-range microphone company. This AT2020 is yet another quality product of theirs.

Pros
Cons

It is a dedicated microphone for digital recording making it perfect for voice-overs. Combining this with their high quality 16 bit A/D converter, audio sounds amazing and clear.
Mix control allows you to monitor and blend the microphone signal with pre-recorded audio to create an effective final output.

It also has volume control for instant change and monitoring the microphone signal without any delay. Makes your recording experience more efficient. The microphone has a smooth and extended frequency response which makes your audio stable and consistent throughout the recording without any effort.

It suits ideally for be it voice-overs, podcast recordings or field recordings. You cannot notice any fluctuations in the recording, The USB compatibility makes it widely compatible with an array of devices easily. be it Windows or Mac, the mic is compatible.

Final Verdict

Why is that whenever a microphone is good on almost all aspects they mess it up in the pricing section? The AT2020’s price is a bit high, although some may say its worth it, spending just some additional money can get you premium microphones without any effort. The quality is still amazing and impressive and the only thing not impressive is its price. Missed it in the last step Audio-Technica.

Oh hey, another Rode microphone but this time comes with a hefty price tag. Rode playing both sides it seems but being real Rode NT1 impresses us with its premium grade qualities.
Its cardioid polar pattern shines here. It picks up the sound precisely from the source neglecting audios from the sides and rear, it also maintains the natural tone.

Pros
Cons

Rode NT1 has a highly sensitive microphone which picks up low-frequency sounds and voices perfectly. If you want a microphone for challenging voice-overs at low frequency sounds this one may be the option for you. It also has a self-noise level of 5dBA which is ideal for voice-overs.

The pop filter is included with the microphone in the package which helps you ignore handling noises, breathing noises and microphone vibrations easily. it also comes with a shock mount adapter and a stand which enhances the stability of the audio.

The only downside of this microphone would be its pricing. Apart from a pop filter and shock mount, it does not offer anything unique compared to other microphones at this price range.

Final Verdict

Having a non-durable at this price is no excuse. If we are paying for a premium mic every aspect of it should be premium because this will not a recurring purchase from time to time. Its features are amazing: cardioid condenser, high sensitive mic and comes with additional accessories but still value for money is not that remarkable. It still is a good quality microphone but it just feels so ordinary for its price range.

Before you get mad at me, yes the price is high and but let me explain why it is a great microphone and you can go for it. The Neumann TLM 102 comes with some amazing features like large-diaphragm condenser, cardioid polar pattern, high sound pressure level, metal finish and has external accessories too.

Pros
Cons

It has a cardioid polar pattern and by now you must have figured out that it is an excellent choice for voice-overs. Cardioid picks up patterns are the best choices for professional recording purposes all the time.
The highlight of this microphone though is not its polar pattern but its large-diaphragm condenser.

It allows you to captures the audio more efficiently and accurately at the same time. One of the best combinations with cardioid polar pattern and works well. It has a high-pressure sound level and circuitry to enhance audio quality.

One of the best aspects of this microphone is its amazing build quality. It has a stunning minimalistic design and also a metal finish which comes at two variants: Nickel or Matte black. Just for your information, the matte black version looks really good.

Final Verdict

I’m not going to justify its price tag saying that it has amazing features and worth it because all these features are available in microphone which is priced far less than this. The pricing is simply too high to ignore even though the microphone is amazing and suits for voice-overs perfectly.
